Aircon isolator points
Aircon isolator point installation
By Saikon Contractors · August 2026 · 3 min read
An isolator point is the dedicated switch that lets an aircon compressor unit be safely cut off from power, separately from the rest of your circuits, before servicing or in an emergency. It is a required part of a proper aircon installation, not an optional extra.
When you need this
Most commonly this comes up alongside a new aircon installation, a compressor unit being relocated, or an older installation that was never fitted with a proper isolator in the first place. If your aircon technician has flagged a missing or non-compliant isolator, this is the job that fixes it.
What is involved
We run a dedicated 20A circuit from the DB box to the compressor location and fit an isolator switch rated for the unit. This is sized to the compressor's actual load rather than a generic point, since undersizing here is a real safety issue, not just an inconvenience.
What it costs
A 20A isolator point for a compressor unit starts from $200. The exact price depends on cable run length and whether the DB box has spare capacity for the new circuit.
What you get
- A written, itemised quote before we start
- Every point tested before handover
- Two year workmanship warranty, in writing
